Speakerheart

In a world similar to our own, a young musician named Speakerheart was born with an electronic speaker where his heart should be. Now twenty-seven and newly married, he's finally found success with his band—their album is climbing the charts and they're embarking on their first major tour.

But as fame beckons, Speakerheart's mechanical heart begins to malfunction with increasingly dangerous episodes.

As his condition worsens, the pressures of stardom transform him into someone his bandmates no longer recognize, driving away the very people who believed in him from the beginning.

Haunted by questions about his origins and struggling to understand why he was created in this way, Speakerheart must fight to save his music, his band, his marriage, and his very life.

This original musical explores what it means to be human when you're anything but ordinary—a story of hard-won redemption filled with rock anthems, soaring power ballads, and the transformative power of love that beats stronger than any heart.

Speakerheart has a cast of seven (3m, 4f) and will have a 4- or 5-piece band. It has two acts and runs about 2 hours, including a 15-minute intermission. It has several locations, and can be performed with minimalist sets and simple lighting, or with a larger band, impressive sets, and rock concert lighting.
